Martin Sexton and I have been friends for many many years now, well, he just met me for the first time. He is an artist that is openly grateful to be doing what he loves and sharing it with the world and I love that about him. His music has always gotten me to sing and dance along and I was quite excited to get to go back stage and get a picture with him after his show at the Canyons Resort in Park City. I don’t know how my arm ended up over his shoulder but I like that we look like old pals since he has been in the soundtrack of my life for as long as I can remember! If he is ever in your area he is a show you will not want to miss! From one artist to another, thanks for inspiring me Martin!
Yes I get excited about new tools and yes I like to show them off! You will see my polisher when it arrives also! The lapidary industry seems to be a very male dominated industry from what I have noticed so far but this girl is excited about it! I may have to form a girls rock club, introduce some estrogen to the industry. Thinking about it in a cycle-of-life kind of way I think it is interesting that Mother Earth forms the rocks, guys go and gather and cut them, I (being a female) (and up till now ...) buy the rock and then make jewelry that both guys and girls make and wear. Yin and yang live together in perfect harmony =) I am all about stirring the pot though....
Whitney and Joe came in and we almost finished their wedding rings! Almost because the diamonds and rubies are being set as we speak! More photos to come!
Looking back now I can't remember why I never had any desire to cut my own stones! I took a private lapidary class last week at a local rock shop and I have been back in quite a few times now to use their machines. It's a little wet and messy but the end result is so much more inspiring to me now that I am hooked! Here are some of the fruits of my labor...
My first two stones, he said I was a natural =)
From this..... to this!
My "office" for a few days and beautiful stones for my labor!
Whitney and Joe have been in the studio making their wedding rings! It is exciting to see the ideas couples come up with for their bands and get to know them through the process. They have been fun to work with and their rings are going to be beautiful! After photos to come soon!
Silversmith and teacher of refined jewelry arts, basically that means I am obsessed with metal and passionate about teaching!
